Julian Holmes is a co-founder of UPMentors, an alliance of small international consulting companies, which share a common vision for software development process, jointly working in the industry and with clients to improve delivery capability. He has a proven track record in enhancing the software development capability of large and complex IT organizations. These skills stem from the experience of performing many different software development roles over his 20 years working within the industry, providing him recognition as a proven software development leader. Julian also became an IBM Champion in 2011, recognizing his outstanding contributions to IBM Rational communities.

The use of distributed project teams for the delivery of software solutions has become commonplace within the industry. The delivered benefits often include the availability of skilled resources, specific sector expertise, and a reduction in time and cost.

However, as the expectations of business customers increases, with demands for greater agility and the ability for teams to react to business change, most distributed teams have failed to meet these demands, especially when projects are large and complex.

This presentation will share Julian’s experiences of working with clients to successfully adopt Agility @ Scale for large and complex delivery projects, with project teams spread across at least two countries.

A few examples include how:

A combination of practices from Scrum, XP, and RUP were successfully integrated and used

Project teams were structured to meet the collaboration challenges of scale and distribution

An Agile culture was introduced across the organisation and to customers

Attending this event will provide you with:

An understanding of what it takes to achieve Agility @ Scale for large and complex software delivery projects

Real examples of how this has been achieved and the benefits that were realised

The IBM Rational methods and tools solutions that can be implemented in their projects and organisations to allow them to achieve the same results
